We constantly hear that India\u2019s logistics sector is booming. The government says our logistics costs have finally adjusted to around 7.97% of GDP<\/a><\/strong>. But if you run a small business, a factory, or if you own a few trucks, it probably doesn’t feel that smooth, does it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The truth is, the on-ground reality of moving goods in India is still pretty stressful. The market is incredibly fragmented. About 75% of truck owners in India have fewer than five vehicles. Because everything is so scattered, there is a lot of confusion, wasted time, and mistrust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s take an honest look at what\u2019s actually going wrong on both sides of the supply chain, and how a simpler, tech-driven approach can actually fix it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Truck Driver\u2019s Side of the Story<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We usually only think about the truck driver when a delivery is late. But the people actually moving our economy forward are facing some serious hurdles right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Where Are All the Drivers?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Did you know India is currently short of about 2.2 million (22 lakh) truck drivers<\/strong><\/a>? For every 100 commercial trucks out there, we only have about 60 drivers willing to drive them. The job is tough, the hours are incredibly long, and because of this shortage, the drivers who are<\/em> working are overstretched. When a truck stands idle because there’s no one to drive it, the whole supply chain slows down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Fear of the “Empty Return”<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is a transporter’s worst nightmare. Let’s say a driver gets a decent paying load from Delhi to Mumbai. If they can’t find goods to bring back on the return trip, they have to drive back empty. They end up burning diesel and paying tolls out of their own pocket. Because they are desperate to avoid this, they often accept return loads at terrible, loss-making rates just to cover fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Waiting for Payments<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A lot of small transporters survive on very tight margins. When a company delays their payment by two or three months, the transporter struggles to pay for their diesel or their truck’s EMI. It pushes many small fleet owners out of business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Business Owner\u2019s Headache<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now let’s look at the shipper. If you own a business, you just want your goods picked up and delivered safely without blowing your budget. But the traditional system makes you work way too hard for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Freight Rates Change Like the Stock Market<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There is no fixed MRP in trucking. You might pay \u20b925,000 to send a load today, and next week, for the exact same route, every broker is asking for \u20b932,000. It depends on diesel prices, the season, and simply who you talk to. It makes it almost impossible to predict your monthly transport costs or calculate your profit margins properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Anxiety of Tracking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You load the goods, the truck leaves, and then… silence. For the next few days, you are constantly calling the driver. “Bhaiya, kahan pahuche?” (Brother, where have you reached?). Sometimes their phone is off, or they give you a vague answer. Meanwhile, your client is yelling at you for an update. It\u2019s stressful and makes your business look unprofessional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. The Bargaining Exhaustion<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When you need a truck, you usually have to make 10 different phone calls to local brokers to check availability and negotiate rates. It eats up half your day just to finalize one dispatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How We Are Changing the System<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We realized that this “every man for himself” system isn’t working. Businesses just want a fair price without the headache, and transporters want steady work and fair pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
